We want them to stretch their boundaries.

It's basically challenge by choice. In the last exercise of the day, students were asked to strap on a harness and climb a 30-foot pole and stand on top. Their only safety precaution is a harness hooked to a rope belayed by their peers. When they reach the top of the pole, students were asked to jump out and touch a ball dangling more than 6 feet from the pole before being lowered to the ground by their team mates.

Many of the students raced up the pole, but faltered on the last step as the pole wobbled beneath their feet. Hoisting themselves onto their feet on the narrow pole with nothing to hold onto seemed to be the most frightening part of the challenge.
