The Land is a forthcoming documentary film about the nature of play, risk and hazard.
Set in The Land, a Welsh "adventure” playground. At The Land children climb trees, light fires and use hammers and nails in a play-space rooted in the belief that kids are empowered when they learn to manage risks on their own.
Tucked away for decades in places like Denmark, Germany, The UK and Japan, Adventure Playgrounds have quietly flourished since the end of the Second World War. Taking many forms - from chaotic junkyards to rudimentary shanty towns, these sites nurture what is known as “free play” and embrace a necessary and positive relationship between risk and play.
